How to get cut.
Argue that the Vietnam War was just and not-at-all imperialistic by writing, in very graphic detail, accounts of VC violence against innocent children. Also, by telling me how so very important American "heroism" is that it completely justified the rape, evisceration, and bombing of my relatives.

Get.

The.

Fuck.

OUT.

If you're into macho heroism and saving people who pathetically no agency and just exist to be victimized, then, yes. Glorification of war and a perverse pride about military violence. It's galling at best, and disgusting at worst. With my personal family history, my reactions tend to fall on the disgust side of the spectrum...

*nods* My *personal* reactions tend to be complicated.
I'm rather influenced by C-PTSD/PTSD these days, so I jump even at things that'd use to let me be calm, analytic, not blinking, or at least not so deeply disturbed, back then? Me being prone to remembering a lot of things with how they *looked* and having vivid imagination probably doesn't help much with hearing those war stories, to feel not disgusted.

I think in a way, it may be better - and certainly *is* better to be repulsed and horrified by violations to people than be a twad advocating those violations, me thinks.

Agreed. But I'm sorry about the his descriptions triggering you... I should have warned. :(

Nah, don't worry, that was a general-disclaimer line up there, it wasn't this concrete conversation that'd trigger me (it just pissed me off. HIS fault, not yours. ;) ) You're quite fine, Figs.
